Biography

Sharada Weir, DPhil, is a Data Scientist with the Economics, Policy & Research department of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA). She leads the Scientific Publications Team in producing manuscripts on a range of issues pertaining to healthcare access, quality and cost.

Dr. Weir has more than two decades of experience leading health economics and health services research studies in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Prior to joining the OMA, she was based at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She has previously held faculty positions at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She was a Senior Research Associate with the health risk predictive modeling firm, DxCG, Inc., in Boston, and Principal Scientist at PHMR, Ltd., a UK-based health economics consulting group.

Sharada grew up in St. John’s, Newfoundland, and attended Memorial University. She holds an MA in economics from the University of Toronto and a Doctorate in economics from the University of Oxford. She completed post-doctoral training in health economics as a Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellow with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
