Livio Di Matteo

Biography

Livio Di Matteo is Professor of Economics at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, specializing in health economics, public policy and economic history. Recent health policy work examines value for money in health-care spending, physician services, the determinants, drivers and sustainability of health-care spending; fiscal economic history; and the evolution of economic inequality in Canada and internationally. His health economics research has been published in international peer reviewed journals including the Journal of Health EconomicsHealth Policy, the European Journal of Health Economics, and Health Economics, Policy and Law.  He has also authored or co-authored a number of policy reports dealing with heath system costs and fiscal sustainability of health care systems. Livio has served as a member of the Canadian Institute for Health Information National Health Expenditure Advisory Panel since 2012.  He helped co-organize the Bending the Cost Curve in Health Care Conference, September 27-28, 2012 and was co-editor with Greg Marchildon of Bending the Cost Curve in Health Care: Canada’s Provinces in International Perspective, University of Toronto Press, 2015.  He holds a Ph.D., Economics from McMaster University, an M.A. Economics, from the University of Western Ontario, and a B.A (Honours)., Economics from Lakehead University.
