Allan Tran

Biography

Allan Tran is a PhD candidate in Health Systems Research (Health Economics) at the University of Toronto’s Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation (IHPME) in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. His doctoral dissertation examines the impact of unexpected out-of-pocket (OOP) bills for preventive care in the United States. Allan’s research integrates empirical and theoretical approaches to study patient, provider, and insurer responses to financial and administrative barriers in care. His current work investigates the link between chronic illness and exposure to preventive care cost-sharing, the causal impact of unexpected medical bills on future wellness visit use, and the role of insurer–provider bargaining dynamics in shaping claim denials for high-value care in the U.S.
